11TH ANNUAL REHEARSE-A-THON
The
best way to get your fair share off to a good start is to get plenty
of sponsors for this year’s annual Rehearse-A-Thon. Pledge cards
were distributed at the “Get Acquainted Day” at the end of school so
that you could use the entire summer to get pledges. Get enough
pledges and you will have your entire Fair Share completed before
school even starts! The 11th annual Rehearse-A-Thon will be held at
WHHS on Saturday, August 21st from 8:00 AM until 6:00 PM. All
marching band members are required to attend, as it will be
considered an extra day of rehearsal to get our show ready. So, you
might as well get some sponsors and make money while you work.
Extra cards can be found
here online. Good luck!
FORMS ONLINE
The Medical Release form and the Rehearse-A-thon Pledge Card can now

New Fall Marching Rehearsal Schedule and rehearsal location.....
As you may have noticed, our school
is going under a lot of construction that will all be finished by
the start of the 2011-2012 school year. Because of this, many
portables have been brought it taking up valuable amounts of land
large enough to allow the Pride of Winter Haven a place to rehearse
in the fall. This leaves the question, "where will the band
practice?" Well, through a collaborative effort with Coach Saliba
and the Athletic Department have been very gracious to let us use
the outfields of the baseball field. Now, to not conflict with fall
baseball events, we are having to alter our practice schedule for
this season until the new field opens up for 2011-2012. Our new
Practice days will be MONDAY AND THURSDAY
from 6:00-8:30. This will seem a bit
different at first, but after a few weeks, we shouldn't know the
difference. A bit THANK YOU to Coach Saliba and the Athletic
Department for letting us use this field.
DEVILETTE NEWS
The 2010-2011 WHHS Devilettes have
already begun their preparations for this year’s marching band show,
well in advance of the rest of us. From June 21-24, the Devilettes
held practice to refresh fundamentals for their trip to the MA Camp
(Marching Auxiliaries) down in Ft Lauderdale FL. They also held a
Garage Sale to help raise money for this trip. At the camp, the
girls received a superior on their Home Routine, Grand Champion on
their team routine, the 110% Plaque and several of the girls were
recognized with medals for exemplary performance. Then, on July 12,
the squad hosted a flag and dance camp here at Winter Haven High,
sponsored by the company “Music in Motion.” Here the girls learned
and reviewed both the basic and advanced fundamentals for the flag
to help get them ready for the fall. We are looking forward to lots
of continued hard work and dedication from this year’s young and
talented group. As you may have heard, Kelly O’Neil and Heather
Shetler are unable to be the coaches next year (Kelly continuing
college, Heather Moving to Virginia) We greatly appreciate
everything they’ve done for the program the past year and wish them
the best. To continue on the Devilette Traditions, this year’s group
will be under new leadership of sponsor Leslie Roberts who is a
former Devilette, She just received her bachelors and masters
degrees from the University of Florida in Elementary education and
will be teaching at a local school starting in the fall. She will
bring to us her knowledge of dance education to keep the Devilettes
at their high standard of excellence. Welcome Ms. Roberts. We look
forward to a great year for the Devilettes.
